It's important for me, a young first time mother who's super zealous about breastfeeding, to hear this story. It's so easy to judge someone for not trying hard enough or not wanting to breastfeed their baby when I see them out in public w/ bottles. But I don't know the reasons why some women choose to, and some like you don't have a choice! Thank you for sharing :) This helped me grow as a person!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3112549216756344228.post-69403685521102670622010-11-21T12:38:30.703-06:002010-11-21T12:38:30.703-06:00I have GD. I never did make enough for both girls, but at least they got breast milk for the first 3 months. It's the best!! I love you and Miss Zoe and I'm so proud at how you've handled all of this. You've been so strong for Zoe and instead of asking "why me?" you've just dug in and done whatever had to be done to make sure you brought your precious baby home safe and sound and healthy. I am so proud to be a member of Team Zoe! :)Donna Wnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3112549216756344228.post-70121106093176812232010-11-11T14:15:38.277-06:002010-11-11T14:15:38.277-06:00This story brings tears to my eyes, being a premie...This story brings tears to my eyes, being a premie mother myself. Thoughout my pregnancy I felt as though something was wrong. Doctors only advice was it was my first pregnancy, I was miserable. Needless to say I gave birth a month and a half early. My instincts were right, I was septic. My body wasnt getting rid of her waste properly, it was truley a miracle we both lived. She came out not breathing at all, they forced a powder down her throat, she finally started to scream. She was born with full blown pnemonia, various skin problems, and because of sitting in her own waste for so long no one knew what else would come up. Doctors told me it would be months till she was healthy enough to come home. I started pumping, and demanded they feed her my milk. A week later, she came home. Amazing the doctors and myself. I shared my story to share another. A friend of mine, while i was in the the hospital, gave birth at 25 weeks. Her son was only 1lb, with 2 brain hemorrages, heart problems and very underdeveloped lungs. Even though she was haveing a worse time than I, she wrote me a story. This story gave me answers to the "why" questions I think every mother ask when something is wrong. To a premie mother, from a premie mother. P.S: (Her son is doing great, and a has made a quick recovery) : Did you ever wonder how the mothers of premature babies are chosen? Somehow, I visualize God hovering over Earth, selecting his instruments for propagation with great care and deliberation. As he observes, he instructs his angels to take notes in a giant ledger. "Beth Armstrong, son. Patron Saint, Matthew. Marjorie Forrest, daughter. Patron Saint, Celia. Carrie Rutledge, twins. Patron Saint ... give her Gerard. He's used to profanity." Finally, he passes a name to an angel and smiles. "Give her a preemie." The angel is curious. "Why this one, God? She's so happy." "Exactly," smiles God. "Could I give a premature baby a mother who knows no laughter? That would be cruel." "But does she have the patience?" asks the angel. "I don't want her to have too much patience, or she'll drown in a sea of self-pity and despair. Once the shock and resentment wear off, she'll handle it. I watched her today. She has that sense of self and independence so rare and so necessary in a mother. You see, the child I'm going to give her has a world of its own. She has to make it live in her world, and that's not going to be easy." "But Lord, I don't think she even believes in you." God smiles. "No matter, I can fix that. This one is perfect. She has just the right amount of selfishness." The angel gasps, "Selfishness?! Is that a virtue?" God nods. "If she can't separate herself from the child occasionally, she will never survive. Yes, here is a woman whom I will bless with a child less than perfect. She doesn't know it yet, but she is to be envied. She will never take for granted a spoken word. She will never consider a step ordinary. When her child says 'mama' for the first time, she will be witness to a miracle and know it. I will permit her to see clearly the things I see – ignorance, cruelty, prejudice – and allow her to rise above them. She will never be alone. I will be at her side every minute of every day of her life because she is doing my work as surely as she is here by my side." "And what about her Patron Saint?" asks the angel, his pen poised in the air. God smiles. "A mirror will suffice.Jackie Cottonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3112549216756344228.post-77683726362353370862010-11-11T14:11:37.611-06:002010-11-11T14:11:37.611-06:00What an amazing story!
